Adahi lan Atabey is the Taino language Hiwatahia for "Medicine of Atabey". Together, we will be exploring Atabey, the Caribbean Earth mother and Cemi. Atabey is the ancestral spirit for the Taino people of fertility, creator spirit, holder of the moon and waters, music and beauty. Participants will explore the mythos of Atabey and her symbolism as an earth mother spirit. With this understanding, we will then start exploring the various herbs used in the herbal medicines of Boriken (Puerto Rico) and The Greater Antilles. Some of which we might already know like Elder, Aloe, Basil and more! Others may be more introductory like Recao, Panapen and Gandul. Together, we will weave medicines with a select few herbs and sing over our preparations in Hiwatahia to close the class.

About the Teacher Maggie Rivera: Starting her journey in astrology about 9 years ago, Magi found herself connecting the stars and the earth. On the quest of purpose and passion, Magi embraced herbalism and divinatory practices. Working with plant medicine lead to her recollection of ancestral and universal wisdom. In embracing the eclectic nature of her Puerto Rican ancestry, she found herself weaving a web of seemingly distant creations. It has led her to taking a unique approach to spiritual work. Integrative healing is a huge part of her herbalism and personal practice. Thus, inspiring an anthropological approach to spirituality and medicine. Now Magi uses her online platforms on Instagram @priestessofmoonlight and @moonpriestessapothecary as well as her website blogs on www.priestessofmoonlight.com to share the eclectic nature of healing, shamanism and the medicine path. Here, she spreads wisdom and ideas on plant medicine, occultism, energy work, divination and their anthropological correspondences.
